Today
an accomplished musician in the Los Angeles music scene, Alex
started playing guitar at the age of 9 and played in high school bands
in the 70’s. He continued
playing in different bands, especially in the mid 80’s when he made
his living subbing for absent musicians and vocalists.
In addition to his guitar playing and singing he also picked up
Bass guitar and keyboard to become more versatile. In the early 80’s Alex worked with the Jazz pianist Mojo Davis who became his mentor and later founded the Mojo Davis Trio, a very well known and widely acclaimed Blues/Jazz formation in Georgia (with Eddie Boyd on saxophone). During the 80’s and 90’s Alex played in several bands – covering everything from Oldies to Top 40 and accordingly with a tight gig schedule. In Germany Alex has worked with many Bands and musicians through the years including Fritz Rössel, Frank Ercolano, Joao Haubruck, Klaus Badorf†, Michael Schmelzer, Uli Nonn, Dirko Juchem, Jo Schneider, Tom Münch, as well as learned from and jammed with Thomas Brendgens-Mönkemeyer.
He also became a member of the
UP
Choir, the church choir of
Understanding
Principles for Better Living (founder and Minister Della
Reese-Lett). During his five years
as a member of
the UP Choir (picture below) he was blessed to have the opportunity to
sing on the UP Choir CD "Gospel Pearls", appear in the 2000
Christmas episode of "Passions", and also share the stage with
artists like
Billy
Preston, Edwin Hawkins,
O.C.
Smith,
Della
Reese, The Henleys, Regi Ross, Ollie Rasbury, Karen Evans,
Gerald
Lee Conway Mims, Kim Yarbrough, David Trice, T.C. Campbell, David K. Scott, Bill Pittman,
Tom & Joe Sala, "Panther" Mark Felton, and many more.
Thank you GOD! In the last quarter of 2003 Alexander spent five weeks in Atlanta, GA, working with the Mojo Davis Trio and sitting in with several other bands. Working with his old friend Mojo Davis - who currently works with artists like Sandra Hall and Dekan Blues - after 20 years helped him to further develop and refine his Jazz and Blues repertoire and technique and also build on the amazing teachings of his Guitar tutor David K. Scott (Thanks, David!). Currently, in addition to his steady gig with the Bluebirds, Blue2 and The Euro Dance Band, he also works as musician/vocalist on different projects in the greater L.A. area (click here for audio samples of his work with the Bluebirds), and subs as vocalist and guitarist with Express Band and others. And again: Special Thanks to my Guitar Teacher/Tutor, David K. Scott! Check out a local music
store I discovered:
Alvas Music in San Pedro, CA.
